Nitride bonded silicon carbide bricks and plates are frequently used in oxygen atmosphere furnaces and molten non-ferrous metals such as Aluminum, since they are very resistant to oxidation and slag attack,are more dense and less porous. They also have slightly better thermal shock, corrosion resistance, and twice the crushing strength than that of other refractory bricks.

They have a thermal conductivity ten times that of fireclay refractories, good corrosion and thermal shock resistance, and can be formed into complex shapes.They can with stand slag attack and flame erosion.
